Americas Got Talent tv show

Well I saw the show tonight and it just seems to be getting stupider by the episode.
A good deal of useless talent was featured, along with some decent acts..and great acts..
The good acts were .......A young girl who is only 11 but sings better than most on American idol....acrodunk an acrobatic basketball dunking act ........the illusionist on the show had mediocre illusions....he had no style or presentation....but was still ok...

The thing that really got me was at the end of the show the judges had to nominate an act to continue on to the semi finals.....Out of all the acts they chose the rapping granny .....an old grandmother that raps...a virtual nightmare on stage!
This goes to show that the judges in this competition are nothing less than complete idiots and have no idea how to actually judge a talent show!! The mere fact that a cross dressing giant russian that parades around in feathers and showgirl makeup is still in the running is amazing to me...

To think that the winner of this show will have a Vegas showroom contract for a year is absolutely scary.

While there is some amazing talent on this show the judges do not seem to have a firm grasp of what that is.......

Surprising, as I thought something that Simon Cowell produced would have been a little better.
Just my 2 cents worth.

THE WHO’S TOMMY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FRIDAY MARCH 24, 2006

CIRCUS NEXUS CHOREOGRAPHER TAPPED TO STAGE
THE WHO’S TOMMY.

Noted International Choreographer and long time CIRCUS NEXUS collaborator, Christopher Fleming has signed to stage and choreograph a new production of The Who’s Tommy. Mr. Fleming most recent work for CIRCUS NEXUS includes the recently completed tour of Rites & Rituals.

For the first time in decades and the first time in the United States, The Who have granted permission for their ground breaking “rock opera” to be staged as a full length ballet. The Dayton Ballet will debut this eagerly anticipated production April 26 2007 at the Victoria Theatre in Dayton, Ohio.

"It's a real coup and we're excited about it," said Dayton Ballet’s Artistic Director Dermot Burke.

"Tommy" was added to the company's 69th season as soon as Mr. Burke won approval from the Who's representatives to use the original 1969 recording of the Pete Townshend rock narrative about a deaf, blind and mute pinball wizard.

"I'm not one of those who believe it can't be a ballet unless there are three layers of dust on it," said Burke.

Mr. Fleming is well known for his tenure as a New York City Ballet soloist and started his choreographic and directing career when George Balanchine sent him to Italy to lead a group of New York City Ballet dancers on tour. The ensemble performed a repertoire of Mr. Balanchine's ballets as well as Mr. Fleming’s own choreography. He has directed musical theatre and opera for nationally recognized groups such as the Prince Musical Theatre as well as major regional opera companies such as The Delaware Opera. Additionally his work has been seen Off-Broadway with productions such as Anne Frank and Me. At New York City Ballet he worked closely with Jerome Robbins and his work has always been seen as highly accessible to non-dance audiences. He is noted for bringing a very contemporary sensibility to all of his artistic endeavors.

Recently he was featured as the "Coach" in an episode of MTV's hit reality series Made. Mr. Fleming had one month to successfully transform a male high school "jock" into a ballet dancer and into a soloist role in The Nutcracker.

To Webring or not to Webring

I know many people think of webrings as unprofessional. I have had my site online for over 10 years and have always been a part of a few key entertainer webrings. I have found that they tend to bring in a good deal of traffic.
I know having some big banner on your page doesnt look great. But now webrings have evolved so you ca put the banner in your links directory, hence it doesnt look so bad.
What does everyone think about webrings?

This is one of the webrings I have been a member of for over 10 years....

If you are a south Floridian entertainer this is a good site to post your profile in for free. They are only a few months old and hence are not yet indexed by the search engines. However they seem to be doing everything right and will probably end up being a good resource.

Rites & Rituals By Circus Nexus

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday February 17, 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Circus Nexus brings Rites and Rituals to Mid America audiences
CIRCUS NEXUS brings its remarkable dance / theatre / circus fusion production Rites & Rituals to four cities February 22 through 28 in Michigan, Illinois and Mississippi.
Rites and Rituals is described by Director / Choreographer Christopher Fleming as taking place on a ceremonial site of ancient but advanced civilization where feats of skill, magic and transformation occur.
This production is performed by a cast of talented dancers, actors and circus performers from around the world including, Argentina Australia Colombia England,Japan,Russia, and the United States. The production revolves around the “rites of passage” of an imaginary ancient pre-columbian civilization through pageantry, ritual, challenges of skill and eventually full acceptance into the community. This is not without spills along the way and a comic vein flows throughout. Through dance, comedy, circus skills of the ground and the air, these versatile artists transport audiences to a magical and mystical time and place. From the pre-show audience interaction to the amazing demonstrations of prowess on the stage, to the public meet and greet in the lobby post performance, CIRCUS NEXUS strives to create a personal relationship, bonding the cast and the audience in a shared experience.
Rites and Rituals features elaborate sets, phatasmagorical costuming and dramatic lighting which along with the charismatic cast are certain to cast a spell on audience members of all ages.
Director / Choreographer Christopher Fleming is a veteran of New York City Ballet and a choreographer with international credits on dance, theatre and opera stages. He is well known to viewers of the MTV series “Made” as the rough and tough ballet coach on one of the more popular episodes of the last season.
According to Executive Producer, Keith Arsenault this production is the second in a series of new touring productions created by CIRCUS NEXUS. "We have just presented a very special holiday edition of CIRCUS NEXUS entitled Sugar Plum Dreams. It’s a hilarious dance / circus production that takes the familiar holiday favorite The Nutcracker and turns it inside out, retelling it in a wild and wacky new way. We think of it as the “fractured fairy tale version” of The Nutcracker. Rites and Rituals is a vastly different presentation but very much in keeping with our commitment to a contemporary circus aesthetic that combines dance, theatre and circus skills in fresh and unique ways for today’s audiences."
Rites and Rituals visits the McMorran Center in Pt. Huron, Michigan on February 22, The College of Lake County in Grey’s Lake, Illinois on February 24, Governor’s State University in University Park, Illinois on February 25 and The Temple Theatre in Meridian, Mississippi on February 28th.

“We are so proud and excited to offer this truly entertaining production to public and private entities,” said Robert Szarka, Circus Europa and SNL Entertainment founder.

Americas Got Talent

When I first heard about this show, I thought wow an American Idol for variety acts this could be great!
After seeing the first few shows I realised that this show was more of a joke than something to get excited about.
Firstly the judges are just well useless.....apart from the british guy he seems to have a better understanding of talent than the other two.
The show seems to be more about mockery than about true talent. The talent they have chosen to participate apart from a select few exceptional people tends to be just plain weird or stupid.
I decided to research this a little further, and found out that signing up for this show was equivalent to signing your life away to the devil.
Artists beware, this show does not seem to be somewhere you want to be! I know many of us have been contacted to be a part of this show.....The question is, how positive is the exposure and are the contract terms worth that 30 seconds of fame!

Read the posts from performers.net in the link below to see what the performing arts community is saying about this show and how you have to give up all rights to your act and its promotion just to participate....

Cruise ship entertainment (vocalists)

Cruise ships and boat trips are regular employers of cabaret artists, singers, dancers, musicians, bands, dj's and other entertainers. The type and style of music or show required varies considerably depending on the company, length of trip and passenger demographic. Entertainers and musicians are expected to be highly proficient, versatile and capable of learning new routines/songs quickly, be able to read music and work long hours.

All sorts of artists are hired from the one man band (singer/guitarist/pianist/backing tracks), Duos, Trios, DJs to 'Cabaret Performers' who provide self-contained or accompanied shows in two or more 45 minute slots per day/evening or as a performer of an existing group in an pre-produced show. Some companies also hire artists as part of an 'in-house' troupe who are expected to learn and perform a variety of duties (acting/singing/dancing) on several shows learnt and presented during the length of the cruise.

Ships are like any other venue and come in all shapes, sizes and calibres of staff expectancy... some require the artist to provide their own musicians, backing, props, lighting and equipment whilst some ships contain a fully equipped stage complete with lighting, p.a. rig and in-house orchestra/band. The type of shows presented is diverse.. on larger ships, this may mean a dj is working in one bar, a singalong duo is in another and and everyone from solo artists up to large theatrical style productions and/or major guest artists are rehearsing/performing on the main stage! Short trips and smaller craft have less space and amenities so tend employ more self-contained acts.

Being confined to a ship (no matter how large) means that all crew are expected to be on duty 24/7 ....... in other words, be nice to the passengers even if you have a sore head, runny nose or bad day plus be prepared to cover a variety of other duties when staff are off sick, even if it is not part of their normal duties. Staff are usually contracted for the duration of the cruise which can be for anything between one day to a year, and can expect good wages with accommodation and meals included.

It is also a fallacy that cruise ship entertainers are unlikely to be 'discovered' or attain celebrity status... many singers use any opportunity to perform as a means to polishing their performances and have subsequently moved onward and upward in their careers like Claire Sweeney and Jane McDonald.

Entertainers usually gain employment by application and audition. Age ranges considerably, although 21 to mid 30's is standard, companies who concentrate on serving the more mature market, often prefer music and artists who can cater to a more selective, older clientele. A show reel is not always necessary but desirable, especially for those who can provide a 'pre-produced' show or package. Advertisements for these positions can be found in The Stage Newspaper (UK), Variety (US) and major newspapers. Enquiries can also be made direct to the cruise line. specialist Cruise Ship Agencies and Entertainment Agents who may run showcases for cruise ship bookers.
